Steppe birds are defined as those adapted to extensive farming systems and traditional cultivation of cereals, legumes and other crops, together with fallow land. Spain is home to the last and most important populations on the continent.

Areas of Relevance for Steppe Birds (ARSB) in the Comunidad de Madrid region. Contribution to the knowledge of the current status of steppe birds. Ecological problems and the state of conservation.

Goal:Knowing the steppe birds population in the ARSB to assess future compensatory measures and contribute to enhancing their state of conservation. Carrying out direct conservation actions for key species within the area.

A Casa For Birds.

Goal: Monitoring of steppe birds in the municipalities of Almonacid del Marquesado and northern half Puebla de Almenara in areas with steppe habitat. Bibliographic review of information and characterization of the study area for the realization of itineraries. Updating of the population size of the species. Mapping and modeling of the distribution of the Little Bustard.

Monitoring steppe birds at El Hito lagoon. LIFE El Hito, LIFE 20 NAT/ES000035

Goal: Provide population estimates of steppe birds as a starting point in the Hito lagoon (municipalities of El Hito and Montalbo) to know their current conservation status and assess the conservation status of traditional agricultural areas. Design of itineraries and bird censuses and habitat characterization. Mapping and development of a MaxEnt model for the Little Bustard.

Steppes Project: Contribution to the improvement of the conservation status of steppe birds in the Natura 2000 Network area "Cereal steppes of the Jarama and Henares rivers".

Goal: Contribute to improving the conservation status of the main steppe species: Great Bustard, Little Bustard, Ortega, Stone Curlew, Montagu's and Hen Harrier and Lesser Kestrel in the SPA by updating data on their size and trend. Carrying out censuses of the breeding and wintering population. Establishment of critical areas. Enhancing the value of the area.
