Montagu's and hen harrier (Circus pygargus y cyaneus)
Projects for the conservation of harrier populations and their habitat.
2023
Updating nesting areas of Montagu's harrier and hen harrier in the Comunidad de Madrid. In-situ conservation actions and sensibilization within the SPA “Cereal Steppes of the Jarama and Henares Rivers”.
Goal: Contribute to enhancing the conservation status of the Montagu's and Hen Harrier in the SPA “Cereal Steppes of the Jarama and Henares Rivers” through the implementation of direct in-situ conservation actions and increasing the sensibilization among the local population.
2021-2022
Monitoring of the breeding population of Montagu's and Hen Harriers and rescue campaign in the SPA of the Jarama and Henares rivers.
Goal: Estimation of the evolution of the harrier population in the SPA (Red Natura 2000). Carrying out direct conservation and management actions to minimize the impact of mechanized cereal harvesting on the species' nests. Development of actions with farmers to make them aware of the problems of the species and involve them in the actions developed.
2020
Monitoring and protection of the nestlings of the genus Circus (harriers) in the SPA: Cereal steppes of the Jarama and Henares rivers.
Goal: Development of management and conservation actions to minimize the impact of cereal harvesting on these species by reducing unnatural mortality and maintaining a stable population in the area. Development of actions to involve farmers in the preservation of these species.
2019
Monitoring and protection of the nestlings of the genus Circus (harriers) in the SPA: Cereal steppes of the Jarama and Henares rivers.
Goal: Estimate the harrier population in the SPA (Natura 2000 Network) and its evolution. Develop management actions to minimise the impact of mechanised cereal harvesting on the nests. Development of actions to involve farmers and harvesters in the conservation of these species.

2017
Monitoring and study of the gender issue Circus (eaglets) in the SPA: Jarama and Henares river cereal steppes.
Goal: Detect the evolution of the population in this protected area (Natura 2000 Network) by assessing its problems and carrying out management actions to minimise the impact of cereal harvesting on these species. In this project, actions were developed trying to involve farmers in its conservation.
